This is a translation of Janne Stark's upcoming review at metalcentral.net:
American band The Muggs call themselves "the ugliest band in the world" and surely enough they won't win any beauty contests or have a bunch of chicks
on their tails because of their beautiful looks and flowing blond hair. Well, fuck that. When it comes to The Muggs, the music is more than enough.
I was really into the band already on the self-titled debut, and the following live-DVD proved the band's qualities on stage as well. Now the
follow-up "On With The Show" is here and in my opinion it does even surpass the outstanding debut. The Muggs is a power trio, something they may
not really sound like on record, but more like a power quartet (guitar dubs), which is no complaint at all from my side. They deliver a great,
energetic powerful collection of songs with the roots deeply set in the seventies humus. Nope, we're not talking stoner here, this is the REAL DEAL
with references like Mountain, Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin and James Gang — riff oriented seventies based hard rock with a southern touch. The title
track is a straight ahead, almost sixties influenced thing, while "All Around You" is a bit reminiscent of vintage Black Sabbath and "Curbside
Constellation Blues" is, as you may suspect, a pure semi-soft blues with a touch of piano. The band also sounds quite seventies authentic, but
without taking the retro thing too far. I also get vibes of obscure old favourites like Jukin' Bone, Truth & Janey and Totty, which is not bad
in my book. It's however in the rougher songs like "Down Below", "Get It On", "Slow Curve" and "Just Another Fool" they really shine.
